Method

Step 1

Chop onions and tomatoes. Microwave the paneer for 1 minute. This makes the paneer really soft. Cut into cubes and keep aside.

Step 2

Heat 2 tsps of oil in a wok and add the cumin seeds.

Step 3

After 30 seconds, add the onions. Fry for 1 minute. Add the ginger garlic paste. Fry for 1 minute.

Step 4

Add the turmeric powder, chilli powder. Fry for 30 seconds.

Step 5

Add the tomatoes, add salt. Cover and cook.

Step 6

When the tomato is cooked, add the coriander powder. Stir continuously till the oil begins to separate from the spice mixture.

Step 7

Add the peas to the masala and fry for 2-3 minutes.

Step 8

Then add the paneer, water and salt, reduce flame to a simmer and cook till the gravy thickens. Add garam masala.

Step 9

When the gravy is thick enough, turn off the flame and stir in the cream.

Step 10

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.

For a low calorie option, add 1/4 cup milk instead of the cream. Just remember to turn the gas down, because the milk will split if  added on a high flame.

Matar paneer tastes great with parathas, naan and even jeera rice.
