13 Fantastic Paratha recipes to start your day!
Parathas are of many shapes- round, square, or triangular and need not always be stuffed. Often served with yoghurt, pickles, potato vegetable or dal, or even rolled up as an accompaniment at teatime- parathas are a meal for virtually anytime of the day!
Steaming hot parathas with a dollop of butter, served with a bowlful of yoghurt and pickle on the side- the perfect way to start the day.
I love parathas- making, eating, serving them!
Parathas were one of the first things that I learned to cook and I still enjoy making.
As my son started growing up, parathas became my secret weapon for sneaking away the healthy food. Everything tastes yum with yoghurt and ketchup- and so the boy learned to eat.
Here are a few paratha recipes that are much loved in my house!
Try them.
This most simple of parathas, is made my mixing up freshly cooked or leftover dals. Originally a recipe from Rajasthan, this paratha is a wonderful way to rehash all the leftovers from your fridge- the dal, vegetables – mix in some fresh coriander and a nutritious meal is ready in minutes
These most delightful parathas pack a fistful of spinach goodness into every bite. The boiled potatoes help keep full for longer with their slow release carbs and the parathas themselves are a lovely green and deliciously soft.
Methi parathas are probably the most loved parathas in the world. Filled with the goodness of slightly bitter methi (fenugreek leaves), these parathas will bring any meal alive.
A recipe I quite accidentally created, trying to use up the boiled potatoes and some Cheese, these soft and yummy parathas make the most perfect breakfast or kid’s lunch. To date, they remain my son’s firm favourite and are constantly in demand.
Spicy Paratha made with Kalonjji / Nigellla seeds
A simple paratha recipe made extra special with the addition of Nigella seeds/ Kalonji brings a delight to any meal.
In my effort to sneak in healthy stuff, one morning, I added some finely grated carrot and some very fragrant fresh coriander to some dough. And a wonderful new paratha was born.The addition of coriander leaves makes this paratha really special.
These delicious parathas are made especially in winters with freshly grated cauliflowers when they are abundantly available and really fresh.
Another firm favourite of mine, these delicious parathas made with freshly frated radish (mooli) taste wonderful with freshly made yoghurt.
Alu (Potato) Paratha
And these, the world’s favourite parathas the wonderful, delicious, melt in the mouth alu parathas can weaken anyone’s resolve.
These delicious super high protein parathas contain the goodness of paneer and the sweetness of peas. I could have them any time of the day. Super easy to make, they are a joy to have at lunch or pack in lunchboxes as well.
Triangular Paratha
The basic paratha, just in a different shape – hence even more loved!
A delicious cabbage paratha, best eaten fresh as soon as it is made. Absolutely delicious.
Cabbage Paratha II/ Bandhagobhi paratha
Another variation of the cabbage paratha. A hot paratha anytime!

















excellent! my personal fave is of course the methi paratha [good gujju that i am] but i am willing to be a guinea pig for your other recipes! the cheese and alu, though artery-deadly, sounds interesting 🙂
