I love gadgets, specially those that promise to make my work light. Gefu’s Cubico Onion and Vegetable Chopper is said to be the fastest in the world- when I heard that I was a bit skeptical.

So I had to try it out myself. But I’m so happy to tell you that this gadget is wonderful.

The Cubico is a neat little thing, perfectly sized- essentially made of 2 cubes that sit on top of each other. It can be taken apart easily and assembled in seconds.

The lower cube holds all the chopped vegetables and  houses the sharp blade that is connected to a handle that can be turned easily. Operating it is simplicity itself. The handle turns the wheeled blade and and in a jiffy you have masses of cut vegetables.

Onions it does cut very easily, so i decided to try carrots as well- because it does take a while to dice carrots with a knife.

It does take slightly more effort to turn the handle for carrots, as they are quite hard but can you see how quickly the blade got to work .. turning its way through carrots and making absolute mincemeat of them.

The Cubico is unbelievably effective. That’s what I got from one carrot without breaking a sweat.

It is extremely easy to take apart and can be washed effortlessly. Much easier than having to struggle with a food processor.

Also, since the blades are well protected inside the cube, even my 9 year old can use it very easily.

What I liked about it is that the onions are not cut too fine. They are more like a thick shred. When you cook Indian food, it is very important that the onions and tomatoes are cut into this size- they should not be too big or too small. To small and you could burn them- too big and they will be an eyesore.

Cut like this, they cook as they should and transform themselves into a silky thick gravy by the time you’re done cooking. No big pieces of onions and tomatoes floating around in the curry.

I made a delicious Egg Curry that is very popular in India and found that the prep needed almost no time thanks to the Cubico.
