{"id":8750,"date":"2015-11-30T13:28:59","date_gmt":"2015-11-30T13:28:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vaish.sengupta.net\/of-cloves-and-capers\/?p=8750"},"modified":"2015-12-01T12:37:39","modified_gmt":"2015-12-01T12:37:39","slug":"yule-log","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vaish.sengupta.net\/of-cloves-and-capers\/yule-log\/","title":{"rendered":"How about a Yule Log for Christmas- a review"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"previewr-wrapper collapsed\" tabindex=\"0\" data-reactid=\".6\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"previewr-wrapper collapsed\" tabindex=\"0\" data-reactid=\".6\">Did you know that the word Yule originates from the ancient Winter Solstice festivals in Scandinavia and Northern Europe?<\/div>\n<div class=\"previewr-wrapper collapsed\" tabindex=\"0\" data-reactid=\".6\">The pagans believed that the sun stood still for 12 days at the end of the year, and burning a Yule log kept light going in its absence.<\/div>\n<div class=\"previewr-wrapper collapsed\" tabindex=\"0\" data-reactid=\".6\">The Christians believed that the shepherds brought\u00a0 bundles of hay &amp; kindling to light a fire to keep Baby Jesus warm during this time.<\/div>\n<div class=\"previewr-wrapper collapsed\" tabindex=\"0\" data-reactid=\".6\">Hence the 12 days of Christmas.<\/div>\n<div class=\"previewr-wrapper collapsed\" tabindex=\"0\" data-reactid=\".6\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"previewr-wrapper collapsed\" tabindex=\"0\" data-reactid=\".6\">So happened the tradition of burning a Yule log over the 12 days of Christmas to ensure good fortune, wealth and happiness for the year that followed.<\/div>\n<div class=\"previewr-wrapper collapsed\" tabindex=\"0\" data-reactid=\".6\">In modern times, a Yule Log has come to mean a chocolate cake that resembles a Log.<\/div>\n<div class=\"previewr-wrapper collapsed\" tabindex=\"0\" data-reactid=\".6\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"previewr-wrapper collapsed\" tabindex=\"0\" data-reactid=\".6\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"previewr-wrapper collapsed\" tabindex=\"0\" data-reactid=\".6\">Traditionally, the log was \u2018welcomed\u2019 into the house on Christmas Eve. It was then kept in the\u00a0 hearth and a Christmas blessing was said over it and it was then sprinkled with wine before being set alight.
