Korean food has some really spicy dishes. Daeji Bulgogi, traditionally made out of of thinly sliced pork and marinated in a spicy chilli pepper sauce, is one of them.

Excellent served with rice, or steamed/ stir fried vegetables, it will most certainly make you reach for that extra glass of water.

So if you are looking for some quick spicy food to make, this is the one!

Method

Step 1

Slice pork into very thin pieces, about as thick as bacon or thereabouts.

Step 2

Make the pork marinade, by mixing everything except the pork in a large bowl.

Step 3

Marinate and keep aside for at least one hour or several hours in the refrigerator. If keeping in a ziplock, do remember to move it around once in a while.

Step 4

Heat a frying pan and heat 2 tbsp oil. Stir fry the pork on high heat for about 5 minutes. Fry in batches if the wok is small.

Step 5

For a healthier alternative, you could grill or broil the pork instead of frying.

Spicy  or what?

Notes:

If I don’t have Sambal Oelak at hand, I  simply soak dry red chillies and make a paste with ginger, garlic and garam masala for a similar fiery taste. And then add soya sauce for the marination.

I have also substituted Maharashtra’s own Kanda- Lasun( Onion-garlic) masala with great success.
