In Bengal, Lakshmi Puja is celebrated on Kojagiri Poornima, mostly by people hailing from East Bengal, now Bangladesh. This pooja has been celebrated for the last 4 generations in my husband’s family and Narkel Naru is especially made on this day. Here’s a shortcut recipe from my Mother-in-law. The recipe is extremely easy and the ladoos are melt in the mouth delicious. 20141007-P1100132

Ingredients

  • Condensed milk—250 ml (approximately the same amount as coconut)

Method

Step 1

In a large wok/ kadhai, put the grated coconut. Add the condensed milk and mix well. At the beginning cook on a medium flame. Reduce the flame after a while and keep stirring constantly on a low flame till the mixture dries.

Step 2

Check for doneness on the hand, if you roll it ., the hand should get slightly oily.

Step 3

Add the cardamom powder and mix well. Take care to keep the nadu mixture absolutely white.

Step 4

Add 1 tsp maida (all-purpose flour) and switch off the gas. Mix thoroughly.

Step 5

Roll into small laddoos or nadus and enjoy!
