It always is a nightmare trying to get kids to eat their vegetables. Sneak them, mash them, somehow get the in- has been my mantra.
But for some strange reason, broccoli seems effortless.
Specially when dunked in this beautiful cheese sauce. It’s yum.
I have strict orders to make this every week 🙂
Ingredients
Broccoli- 2 cups
Salt- 1/4 tsp
FOR THE SAUCE
Flour-1 tbsp
Milk- 1/2 cup
Cheese- 1/4 cup ( mixture of parmesan & cheddar)
Salt- to taste
Pepper powder- 1 pinch
Method
Boil water. Drop in the broccoli florets cook for 5 mins until tender. Drain.B
- Stand in a colander to drain all the excess water.
For the sauce
Whisk flour and 1/4 cup milk in a small bowl until smooth.
Heat the remaining 1 /4 cup milk in a saucepan over medium-low heat until steaming.
Now whisk in the flour mixture and keep whisking on low heat  until thick. This would take 2 to 4 minutes, Don’t stop whisking.
Add cheese, salt & pepper and nutmeg. Go easy on the salt because the cheese itself can be quite salty.
Pour over broccoli and serve with warm bread.
I like your recipes , Vaishali Rajadhyaksha Sengupta! Broccoli actually tastes really good even steamed n sautéed ….in a little bit of butter or olive oil
Sonali, 🙂 I love it steamed n sautéed too, the cheese is specially to woo my fussy fellow:)
