Oxo’s Box grater – a nifty tool

I am a food blogger, so needless to say, my life wouldn’t quite be the same without good kitchen equipment. My latest friend in the kitchen is this lovely box grater from OXO.

Solid and sturdy, as you would expect having heard the OXO name, the grater has 4 sides.

Thin and thick grating- both are covered. I like to use the thick grater for cheese- it spreads more, believe me. Nothing quite matches the beauty of freshly grated cheese- I so hate the pre-grated cheese that you find in supermarkets- convenient, I agree, but just not for me. For one- it goes off too quickly and I hate waste.

I tested the thin side on hard vegetables like carrots, swede and butternut squash. It is so not a chore.

For grating fiddly stuff like nutmeg and slicing are these two other sides of the grater Slice your onions or cucumbers or even cheese. Smooth and effortless.

The cutest part about this equipment is the little box that it stands on.

It has markings on both sides, which is really helpful because you can grate exactly as much as you need. No need to use another measuring cup to measure- less washing up.

The best part is that this smart little box comes a lid. Any leftovers can go straight into the fridge. And the design is really clever because the bottom of this box has a rubber seal that helps the box stay in place while grating.

I was really impressed by the handle which is solid and doesn’t shift in the slightest, even when grating hard stuff like carrot  or butternut squash.

The grater also has its own rubber seal around its base, this helps prevent it from moving.

I made myself a deliciously Crunchy Carrot Salad with the thick side of the grater.

As you can imagine, this lovely new grater is my current best friend in the kitchen.

At just under 15 pounds currently, it’s a real steal. Get one for yourself. It’s one buy you won’t regret.
