Chicken Roaster and Vegetable Wok from Gefu

Summer is here and it’s time for a BBQ. But a Barbeque sounds much easier and straightforward than it is.

How many of us really manage to get a  lovely moist chicken from the BBQ? Are we able to achieve that perfect balance of taste, crunchy crisp-brown skin and moisture?

The fact is that most of us struggle. More often than not, it dries out and doesn’t really taste the same as we had imagined in our heads.

I was therefore, really excited when I was sent Gefu’s BBQ chicken Roaster and Vegetable Wok from  Haus.

You know how if you want to get that lovely brown well roasted colour to your chicken, it nearly dries out? People offer many solutions like soaking the chicken in brine for 12- 24 hours to get a really tender and moist chicken- but this nifty device saves you from going to all that trouble.

 

It is a very clever device that comes in 2 parts- a perforated wok and a stainless steel canister that holds liquid. This is the ingenious bit that keeps the chicken super-moist.

it has a little clip at the bottom that helps it latch on to the wok and stay there securely.

The device is so simple and yet so brilliantly clever.

 

The liquid steams and ensures that the bird doesn’t overcook.

This is what I found fascinating.

1. It simply uses a beer can technique to keep the chicken moist, even on the BBQ. All you need to do is  fill the canister with water, stock, beer or even orange juice!

2. The canister is firmly clipped on to the base and is strong enough to hold a large chicken, small goose or duck. This was a 1.8 kg chicken that I used.

3. The wok is perforated. Most of the time the bottom of the roast gets soggy with all the oil that falls off the roast. Here, the holes help drain the oil.

4. The stock/ wine/ beer / orange juice whatever it is that you want to flavour the chicken with, that liquid in the cup keeps the chicken unbelievably moist and tender.

5. The vegetable wok is perfect for simultaneously steaming and chargrilling vegetables, They are basted with the delicious juices dripping from the chicken and get nicely flavoured and stay moist.

At the weekend, at the first opportunity, we got straight to roasting a Chicken.

I made this delicious and unbelievably moist Green Thai Roast Chicken for our Sunday Roast and our friends and family were absolutely blown away by it.
